The Journey

Due to Salisbury’s continuing success Raj Mehta, Manager Director purchased the 43 acre site at Cross Lanes, Wrexham and Maelor Foods Ltd was formed in 2014.

In 2015 permission was granted for a processing facility. The site required extensive rebuild and refurbishment works including a multi-million pound extension to house the state of the art processing facility.

Once the building work had been completed the most advanced systems were installed by Baader Linco and Marel Poultry, setting new standards within the industry.

In 2016, Maelor with a small team of its People began a deboning operation that was granted FSA and BRC approval.

The main refurbishment of the site was completed in 2017. Works included a complete indoor lairage with a lorry unload wash/load system, enclosed offal area and a high standard processing environment.

The site has been designed with sustainability and its impact on the surrounding environment in mind. The operation of the plant is energy efficient and we have maximised the latest efficiencies with the workflow of the production lines. Investment has taken place in a state-of-the-art effluent treatment plant which allows 30% of the water usage to be recycled for further use.

This has produced a comfortable working environment for both our workforce and our visitors.

November 2017 saw Maelor commence their operation producing A grade quality chickens for Salisbury Poultry. The Company achieved BRC AA grade, the highest grading of an industry recognised certification.

The site also became Red Tractor approved ensuring it adhered to the stringent production standards including animal welfare.
